A suspect has been arrested in connection with a series of burglaries at a school in the 2200 block of Southeast 92nd Avenue in the Montavilla Neighborhood.
The first break-in was reported on Monday, January 19, 2026. An individual associated with the school contacted police to report a window had been broken with a large piece of concrete allowing a suspect to gain entry into the school. While the suspect moved items around, it did not appear that anything was stolen.
The second incident was reported on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. Like in the first incident, the suspect used a large piece of concrete to break a window and enter the building. During this break-in, a room was ransacked and school property was damaged.
The third incident occurred on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, during which the suspect wandered through the school and stole cleaning supplies.
On Saturday, February 7, 2026, officers responded to a reported burglary at the school. Officers established containment around the building and conducted a search. The suspect was located inside the school and taken into custody without incident.
The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Joshua R. Sandall. He was transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center and ultimately arraigned on the following charges: Burglary in the Second Degree (3 counts), Criminal Mischief in the First Degree (3 counts), Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree (1 count), and Theft in the Third Degree (2 counts).
"Arrests like this matter because they prevent further victimization and send a clear message that repeated criminal behavior will not be tolerated," Portland Police Chief Bob Day said. "Just as importantly, taking offenders into custody helps restore a sense of safety for students, staff, and the surrounding community. I commend our personnel at East Precinct, as well as detectives assigned to our Major Crimes Unit, for their good work."
Additionally, PPB would like to thank the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office for their partnership as this case will be referred to MCDA's Burglary Task Force for follow-up.
