Bend Police say there's a lot of misinformation being spread about the shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School. They say it's important to only get information from trusted sources, including Bend-La Pine Schools and the police. They aren't ready to release information about the suspect, motive, weapon or details that are part of the active investigation. The are clarifying how many people were in the classroom where the shooting happened. There were four adults and five children. One teacher and three students were killed. Another teacher and a student were wounded. Bend Police plan a visible presence at school campuses on Wednesday when classes resume. A date has not been set for the reopening of Silver Rail Elementary.
There will be an outside investigation into the shooting at Bend's Silver Rail Elementary School. Rhoam Summer, a five-year-old, was one of three students who were killed. His parents have hired a trio of lawyers to conduct their own investigation. Rhoam is the youngest person killed in a school shooting in the U.S. dating back to 1966. The legal team’s primary objective, they say, is to determine accountability and pursue justice for Rhoam’s parents. That includes investigating whether the school followed security protocols and how the 16-year-old shooter acquired the gun.
