Local man admits to chilly relations with father

A Marion County man pleaded guilty to abuse of a corpse and theft charges Tuesday after charges of putting his dead dad's body in a freezer and cashing checks sent to the deceased patriarch.

Henry Conley Fitchett, 87, was reported missing in March. Police found the body while serving a search warrant at the family home near Aurora, OR.

Officials report time of death as occurring sometime in December of 2015.

Son Edward sealed the elder Fitchett's body in a large vacuum bag, after his death, and secreted the corpse in a storage shed freezer.

Edward fessed up to stealing $2,000 a month from his dead father's bank account. The funds were being deposited for retirement & Social Security payments.

Seven other theft charges were dismissed in court on Tuesday.  Edward Fitchett was sentenced to 7 years in prison, for his crimes.
